After many debates with my dad we decided to collaborate on this blog post to allow you to decide who should hold the bragging rights in our household.

Tia- “King Kong ain’t got sh*t on me!” – Denzel Washington in Training Day (2001)

Sorry to break it to you Denzel but I think he does…

As well as this line, I have to say that Denzel’s whole dramatic monologue in this film is definitely one to remember. So much so, that through social media, I had heard this line several times before I even had a chance to watch the film. Remind me to use this one if I ever end up in a fight.

Dad- “I could have been a contender” – Marlon Brando in On the Waterfront (1954)

Forget about the eight Academy Awards. Forget about ranking as the eighth greatest American movie of all-time. If you’re a male, fancied yourself as a bit of a dude back in the day (who didn’t), but never really got there… This is for you!

Tia- “I mean like funny I’m a clown? I amuse you?” – Joe Pesci in Goodfellas (1990)

If I say yes, there is a real chance I may not be around for much longer.

Once again, Joe Pesci fills us with his humour and wit in one of the best gangster films of the 20^th century. In one of the best improv scenes that have made it into the final cut, this one is certainly one of the most iconic.

Dad- “Made it ma! Top of the world!”- James Cagney in White Heat (1949)

Being a mummy’s boy, I could never get this quote out of my mind. It helps that the original gangster delivered it.

Tia- “Is it safe?” – Laurence Olivier in Marathon Man (1976)

Now this is why I am scared of the dentist!

As one of the most innovative and iconic torture scenes in film, this iconic line had to be included in my top 5. Through playing on the fears of many, Laurence Olivier really did manage to have the audience screaming with this line. Well, my dad was screaming at least.

Dad- “You talkin’ to me?”- Robert De Niro in Taxi Driver (1976)

If you’ve not spotted it, and it continues with the next quote, there is a godfather theme going on here. Who has not used this line?

Tia- “Where’s ya tool?” “What f**king tool?” “This f**king tool!”- Ray Winstone in Scum (1979)

If this film taught me anything, it’s that I never want to end up in prison. In true British style, Scum, portrays life inside Borstal and it’s safe to say that since watching this I have done everything physically possible to reduce my chances of ending up in a place like that. For all the parents out there that have bad children. Show them this. Trust me. They will definitely shape up pretty quick.

Dad- “Say hello to my little friend” – Al Pacino in Scarface (1983)

Just loses out to the number one spot. Best gangster film of all-time, maybe I’m getting fed up with this line after watching it 1276 times… Or then again?

Tia- “The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn’t exist”- Kevin Spacey in The Usual Suspects (1995)

The greatest trick Kevin Spacey ever pulled was convincing me for 1hr 30mins that he didn’t have a clue who Keyzer Söze was!

As my favourite film of all-time, I would be doing YOU and MYSELF an injustice by not including this quote in my list.

If you haven’t seen this film before, please don’t tell me, because I will never be able to look at you the same again knowing that you have been deprived of seeing some of the best acting in cinematic history (and no I’m not exaggerating!).

Dad- “Warriors, come out to play… Warriors come out to plaaaayyy”- David Patrick Kelly in The Warriors (1975)

The most famous phrase in my house, improvised many times for different occasions. To beat Brando, Cagney, De Niro and Pacino. This is good.
